I had some scary news today. I see that the California Association of REALTORS is now predicting that home prices will decline in California in 2019, and that the number of sales is predicted to decline 6.9% compare to 2018. As someone who earns their living entirely from home sales in California, it’s a little unnerving to see that I’m looking at a 7% pay cut next year. In fact, I feel there’s a great deal of consternation among my colleagues, worried what next year is going to look like. The thing is though that fear leads to paralysis. People become afraid, and they bury their head in the sand. They give up, they go home. So it doesn’t stand to reason that just because there’s going to be 6.9% fewer home sales next year means I’ll be making that much less money. It could be that 10% of my competition will exit the business, and I’ll actually conduct more sales next year, even in a contracting market. Because every crisis or change is an opportunity. I just need to stow that fear away, and keep pushing, keep building, keep persevering, and I’ll be OK. And I think we’ll all be OK if we just don’t stop, don’t give up, refuse to let ourselves be limited by fear. And it’s not easy, and some of us have more to deal with on the fear front than others – cancer diagnosis, anyone? Yeah. I hear you. That’s scary. And I can’t really help you much with that one. But for the rest of you, the rest of us – most of the fear we experience day to day is just made up by our minds to keep you static, because your mind knows that as things are, you’re just fine, so it wants to keep you there. Don’t let it. You’re either growing, or dying.
