After 20+ visits to Lima, I finally crossed the bridge and walked into Rimac, one of the oldest districts of Lima. It’s located just across the Rimac river from Lima Centro, and historically was the place where slaves, indentured servants, and native peoples lived while the “fine” people lived across the river in Lima. It has the reputation as a very high-crime area, which is why I’d never been (except driving through on a bus to take in the view from Mount San Cristobal)…until now.
