I just gotta be me
I was driving down the road, listening to a podcast, and I was moved! Not just because I was hurtling along at 60 MPH, but because I was spoken to. I was listening to the Stay Paid Podcast, and the guest was Bubba Mills of Corcoran Consulting. I met Bubba once, like 8-9 years ago, at a REO conference somewhere. Bubba told a story about how he was his authentic self, and because of it, he got a great job that he was in no way qualified to do. And that spoke to me, because that’s what my YouTube channel Seb Frey TV is all about – it’s a bout me being me. And it made me remember an episode of another podcast I listen to, Real Estate Uncensored. On that podcast, the co-hosts were talking about how they never talk politics with any of their clients or prospects – for fear of alienating half of them. Well here’s the rub for me: I love politics. Not such a big fan of a lot of politicians, mind you, but I find politics endlessly fascinating, and it’s something I care deeply about. So to avoid talking about it would be me not being my authentic self. I’m not a Democrat, I’m not a Republican. People would probably call me left-leaning, whatever, put me in a box. But one thing you can certainly call me is a #nevertrump REALTOR. I think the guy is a racist, narcissist, misogynist, corrupt, and incompetent – and it’s something I feel pretty strongly about – and if that means you don’t want to work with me, then guess what – I don’t want to work with you. But I’m betting that my #nevertrump-ism will resonate with the kinds of clients who I’d more like to work with, anyway. What more can I say other than: I gotta be me.
